The current logo of Paypal was introduced in 2007, receiving much criticism from the media and brand-loyal customers. The old Paypal logotype incorporated a bold yet gentle stroke with a sharp, accentuated cornering around the company’s name, which was written in lowercase characters. After unveiling the redesign, the company decided to auction off the old logo for charity.
The new Paypal logo comprises of a simple, cleaned-up rework of the old logotype, featuring the name “Paypal” in Verdana Bold Italic typeface with two different shades of blue. According to some branding experts, however, the new logo doesn’t provide good contrast on various colored backgrounds. Furthermore, it is also criticized for lack of consistency and introducing further complexity.
The use of blue color in the Paypal logo represents excellence, reliability, approachability and vigilance.
