Subway logo

Subway is a leading American restaurant franchise founded in August 1965 by Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck. Headquartered in Milford, Connecticut, it specializes in submarine sandwiches (or “subs”) and salads. Subway is one of the world’s largest restaurant chains with more than 39,282 restaurants in 102 countries and territories across the globe.

In 1968, the company started using the name “Subway” for the first time. The original Subway logo was, however, conceptualized three years earlier in 1965. It consisted of black, white and yellow colors, and remained in official usage till 2002.

Subway logo evolution

Starting in January 2002, Subway started using a modified version of its 1968 logo. In this logo, the oval behind the wordmark was removed.

On August 5, 2016, Subway introduced a new logo inspired by its 1968 design. The new logo is slated to launch nationwide in early 2017.

The Subway logo is widely considered as one of the world’s most popular and instantly recognizable logos. It has largely remained unaltered by cultural and technological change. It wonderfully reassures the customers that buying Subway products is a smart decision.

The Subway logo incorporates a hand-drawn typeface.
